Internship-/graduation assignment - HBO/WO - Enhancing Security and Performance in Cloud-Native Networking

In the heart of our Engineering cluster lies the software engineering department, where we drive the development of cutting-edge combat and information management systems for naval vessels. Our expertise extends to seamless integration with sensor and weapon systems, alongside the creation of advanced sensor processing applications. These sophisticated systems are trusted by global partners, serving to protect lives and uphold the fundamental right of every individual to safety. At the core of critical operations, our software is the foundation, ensuring resilience in the face of high-stakes scenarios. The infrastructure we are currently developing will be the basis of our products for the next 30 years.
About the assignment
In this assignment, you will explore methods to improve both the security and performance of networking within cloud-native environments. Investigate common challenges such as securing microservices communication, implementing effective network policies, and optimizing data flow in container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes. You are expected to propose innovative solutions that enhance network security—such as using service meshes, encryption, or zero-trust models—while also boosting performance through techniques like load balancing and latency reduction. Your findings should be compiled into a concise report and presented to demonstrate the potential impact of your proposed solutions.
Depending on your study and personal interests, the emphasis within the assignment can be adjusted.

Als starter bij Thales ontvang je een bruto maandsalaris van ongeveer €3.888, afhankelijk van de functie en ervaring. Salarisgroei is gebaseerd op prestaties, ervaring en marktconformiteit. Daarnaast biedt Thales uitstekende secundaire arbeidsvoorwaarden, waaronder 8% vakantiegeld, een dertiende maand, een pensioenregeling en opleidingsmogelijkheden.
Thales hecht waarde aan een goede werk-privébalans. Flexibele werktijden en thuiswerkmogelijkheden zijn bespreekbaar, afhankelijk van de functie. Daarnaast zijn er mogelijkheden voor extra vakantiedagen via het individueel keuzebudget.
