Physics | Mathematics internship: optimize laser-to-droplet alignment

Introduction

The mission of our group – the EUV Source Laser Metrology – is to design and industrialise the next generation of measurement, controls and corrections of our multi‑kW CO₂‑laser system as part of the EUV Source. In recent years, the Source Laser department has experienced a revolution by introducing new lasers and operating at new wavelengths. This new lasers platform was introduced recently and gathers data from multiple systems.

Your Assignment

• Contact relevant stakeholders in the organisation and collect relevant metrics and modelling functions;
• Build tools in Grafana and DataBricks to display and analyse data;
• Identify main contributors to performance of the source laser;
• Develop statistical analysis methods to identify optimal working conditions of the source laser;
• Document the findings, including recommendations.

This is a Master internship for a minimum 6 months, working 3‑5 days per week (60 % onsite). The assignment is suitable for a thesis as well. The total effort is estimated at 100 working days (excl. thesis writing). The start date of this internship is around January/February.

Your Profile

• Busy with a master’s in Physics and/or Mathematics with an affinity for Data Science;
• Knowledge of Python and mathematical modelling;
• Proactive mindset;
• Good communication skills in English (verbal and written).

Other requirements you need to meet

• Enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;
• Located in the Netherlands to perform the internship (or willing to relocate if currently living/studying abroad);
• If a non‑EU citizen studying in the Netherlands, the university must be willing to sign the documents required for the internship (e.g., Nuffic agreement).
