As a First Officer at Martinair Cargo, you are responsible for the safe and efficient execution of flights within the Martinair Air Operator Certificate (AOC). As an ‘Operating Carrier’ under its AOC, Martinair Cargo is responsible for the operational execution (ground handling and flight operations) of full‑freighter cargo flights on behalf of KLM, departing from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. Martinair specializes in the transport of various products, such as flowers, pharmaceuticals, horses, and special cargo. Our mission is: to excel in operational quality as a specialized full freighter operating carrier, in a safe, efficient, flexible, and reliable manner, thereby maximizing our value for AFKLMP Cargo. The DNA of Martinair Cargo is anchored in a number of core values that help us realize our mission and vision (safe, reliable, innovative, together, decisive). Martinair operates its full freighter flights on behalf of KLM. These flights are operated under a Martinair flight number. The full‑freighter fleet at Schiphol consists of four Boeing 747‑400F aircraft. Three aircraft feature the blue KLM livery, and one aircraft carries the red‑and‑white Martinair livery. The current cargo aircraft network from Schiphol mainly includes routes to North and South America, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. The Boeing 747‑400F fleet will be replaced by the Airbus A350F type starting at the end of 2027.

You will operate flights on behalf of Martinair Cargo, always prioritizing safety. Together with your colleagues, you ensure a safe working environment. You reflect on your own behavior and continuously work on your personal development. In this way, you consistently lay a solid foundation for a successful flight. In addition to safety, the efficient execution of flights is also an important aspect to achieve the sustainability goals and the desired operational quality.

Where do you land?

You will be employed by KLM and assigned to the Martinair cargo operation. You will start as a First Officer on the Boeing 747‑400F. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to apply for secondary positions alongside flying, for example as an instructor or within our office organization.

Your profile

Martinair Cargo is looking for candidates who meet the following qualifications:

General

• At least a Dutch HAVO diploma or MBO4 (technical), with English and mathematics included in your curriculum, or an equivalent qualification in case of a foreign education;
• European passport;
• Height between 1.58 and 2.03 meters. No leg length measurement will be conducted;
• Good knowledge of the Dutch language. If you are a non‑Dutch speaker, we expect you to do a course at A2/B2 level (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) before entering into employment.
• No criminal record;
• No restrictions regarding international travel;
• Preferably, you have completed one of the following flight training programs: KFA, NLS, CAE, EPST, MFA, or you hold a Military Pilot License (MPL‑A) from the Royal Netherlands Air Force or Navy.

Licenses/certificates/experience/competencies

• EASA ATPL or frozen ATPL;
• EASA Class I medical (unrestricted);
• LPE English level 6;
• Radiotelephony (RT) license;
• Valid instrument rating for multi‑engine aeroplanes IR(A) – ME;
• EASA MCC certificate;
• Valid type rating for a multi‑pilot aeroplane;
• Trained in PBN;
• At least 1,000 hours on a multi‑engine aeroplanes with an MTOW > 5700 KG (not flown in the role of cruise relief co‑pilot), or you have experience as a military pilot;
• At least 100 hours PIC;
• In the 12 months prior to your application, you must have worked at least 150 hours in commercial aviation, or have experience as a military pilot;
• Trained in UPRT;
• No history of aviation incidents/accidents.

What do we offer

The salary is determined according to the KLM Cargo collective labor agreement. The amount of the salary depends on your length of service and your specific position. A starting salary ranges from €5,600 to €7,000 gross per month, depending on previous experience, excluding benefits and pension allowances. These amounts are indicative and no rights can be derived from them.
