ABN AMRO Clearing Information Technology is an organization with a global focus, is self-supporting, running its own projects, applications and hosting them from its own data centres across the globe. Architecture and portfolio management are global domains. IT development, maintenance, support and IT operations are provided by three regional organizations: IT Europe, IT US and IT APAC. Considering Information Technology as a main part of clearing services, the IT systems and processes have to meet ABN AMRO Clearing strategy demands and internal and external regulations.

Your job

As a Database Administrator at ABN AMRO Clearing, you will be tasked with ensuring the availability and performance of our Clearing database environment. You will manage non-production, production, and disaster recovery environments, working closely with support team colleagues to optimize hardware resources. Proactive monitoring will be a key responsibility, minimizing downtime and conducting regular trend analysis for capacity planning.

You'll oversee enhancements, maintenance, and upgrades to the database environment, collaborating with business, architecture, development, and technical teams to manage and implement changes. Analyzing potential hardware problems before contacting third-party support is crucial, as is acting as a point of contact for escalations. You'll efficiently resolve issues, document solutions, and liaise with users for satisfactory outcomes.

Automation is vital, and you'll develop tasks to reduce manual intervention while investigating methods for performance optimization. Maintaining system documentation and ensuring changes are approved via Change Control methods are essential. You'll also develop and maintain runbooks for High Availability and Disaster Recovery tests. Providing database expertise to the development team and staying updated with emerging technologies will ensure ABN AMRO remains at the forefront of innovation.

Work within the DB Services team, which support the bank’s clearing systems. The role is responsible for Database management of the Clearing applications utilising Oracle, PostGres and/or MS-SQL DB technologies including performing administration, configuration, installation, maintenance, tuning, and support of the database environments. This position will be within a team of existing DBAs that cover Oracle, Postgres and SQLServer.

In banking, Clearing denotes all activities from the time a financial instrument is bought or sold on an exchange until it is settled. ABN AMRO Clearing acts as an intermediary between clients and the exchanges these clients trade on. We become the buyer to the seller and seller to the buyer taking over the risk to reconcile orders between the parties in the transaction. Processing around 20 million transactions a day. We do so for professional traders, investment managers and large corporates. As clients are highly demanding and the market environment fluctuates, you are guaranteed to learn a lot in a short space of time. Your profile

We are seeking a Database Administrator with expert knowledge of Postgres Enterprise and/or Community. The ideal candidate has experience with Red Hat Cluster, particularly in PostgreSQL usage, and excels in implementing and supporting logical and physical replication across sites. Strong skills in Postgres installation, patching, and upgrades, preferably automated, are essential. A capacity planning mindset with the ability to automate this process is highly desirable. Experience in installing, configuring, and maintaining a global monitoring solution is required. Knowledge of Postgres Partitioning and Foreign Data Wrappers is advantageous, along with strong performance tuning, troubleshooting, and backup/recovery skills.

Valued skills also include:

  • Linux/Network expertise, with an understanding of cluster file systems and storage (such as ACFS/NFS/GPFS), and some knowledge of firewalls, network protocols, interfaces, and routing.
  • The ability to diagnose OS-level problems within Linux is highly desirable, along with familiarity with bash/awk/sed and other common Linux scripting and text manipulation tools.
  • Experience with Oracle and Engineered Systems, including Exadata and ODA machine administration, OEM administration, patching, upgrades, and migration processes, is required.
  • Strong automation skills, preferably with good SQL skills, are also highly desirable.

We are offering

The salary displayed above is based on a 36-hour workweek, including vacation allowance and a benefit budget. A benefit budget that allows you to purchase additional employment benefits. If you choose not to purchase anything, it will be paid out monthly.

5 weeks of vacation per year. You have the option to purchase an additional four weeks per year.

A Personal Development Budget of €1,000 per year. You can accumulate this amount up to €3,000.

The possibility of working from home (subject to discussion with your team and depending on your role). For this role we aim for a 3 days a week in the office.
