Your job as a Data Scientist Engineer?

One year ago we started setting up a DataLab in KPN’s most innovative business unit in Amsterdam, KPN Digital, part of KPN’s Simplification and Innovation unit. The DataLab has as a main goal to develop a flexible scaling real time streaming solution working on a variety of problems (e.g. around monitoring and campaigning).  Also we run a variety of different experiments analyzing and organizing different data sources within KPN and bringing the results of the analysis to production.  So, we’re working to make the data work for our customers. Now we’ve played for some months with a small team of experienced Data Scientists and Data Engineers, it’s time to expand our team  and make it ready for the next step. Therefor we’re looking for (Not just another) Data Scientist.

We’re looking for someone who has (of course) a passion for data. You are proven to be very creative. You must have a hacker mentality but also work with privacy and security policies. In this position, with the team, you will give advise to the data roadmap and responsible with the team for the creation of a scalable streaming analytical engine, structuring the development process and create ingest pipelines for new data  sources. You will be and must be able to implement models from idea to code to production. And of course, for instance help to find out which storage structures and databases fit the data the best.

You think working within a big corporate is boring? Well, in this case you got it wrong. KPN Digital is a small innovative business unit with start up mentaliy within a big corporate, and working as a Data Scientist within KPN Digital is playing in data heaven.

What we expect from you?

To be successful in this role this is the kind of profile we have in mind:

• You have a University degree and maybe even a Phd;
• You are an experienced Data Engineer / Data Scientist with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
• Practical or experimental experience with most of the following: SQL, Flink, Hadoop , Spark, Pig, Hive , Yarn , Flume , Storm, Sqoop , MapReduce , Java, Scala , R, Python , SAS, Informatica.
• You have knowledge of  (no- SQL) databases and / or data models ( Teradata , Graph databases, ontologies , semantic frameworks ) Data security and privacy ( data security , Algorithms for data integration / capture )
• You can work well together in a team with more Data Scientists and Data Engineers and have good communication skills in English.
