Baker & McKenzie is one of the largest law firms in the world with 77 offices in 47 countries. As a leading law firm Baker & McKenzie has over sixty years of experience in cross-border legal practice. Our office at the Zuidas in Amsterdam employs more than 200 lawyers, tax lawyers and notaries, working for international and large Dutch cliënts.

The Business Development Team consists of a Business Development Director and four Advisors. It is a steadily growing department, which has a major responsibility for achieving the our strategic objectives related to positioning, growth and customer satisfaction.

Baker & McKenzie was one of the first major law firms to hire dedicated Legal Project Management resources and now the Amsterdam office is currently seeking to expand its Business Development Team with a Business Development Advisor.

Functie

We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced Business Development Advisor for the Bids & Tenders Team, which is part of our larger Business Development function. We would like to add someone to our existing team, who is result-oriented, pragmatic and who can act as a sparring partner and strong commercial advisor to the organization. Ideally – you already have experience working in the legal/tax services industry.

The bulk of your day-to-day job will consist of  drafting commercial proposals, responses to large RFPs, 'live pitches' and capability statements, all in English. Not only will you advise on the overall pitch strategy and alignment of our value proposition with the client's needs,  you will also be responsible for creating the pitch documents  (at times from scratch). As part of  this process, you will liaise with all large number of stakeholders, e.g. the responsible partner(s), the client, the Business Development team and colleagues in the different Baker & McKenzie offices across the globe.

Gerard Wentink: “Our new colleague has the ability to work under pressure and loves the unexpected (or unscheduled); can manage multiple projects with conflicting deadlines and has excellent negotiation, writing and interpersonal skills. He or she is capable of building successful relationships in the Amsterdam office and beyond and would:

  • conduct basic desktop market/client research in order to help determine our position on participating in the bid & tender process (go/no go);
  • preparation of questions to the client to fully understand 'the ask' and participation in calls with the client to clarify mutual expectations;
  • help identify the best team to put forward, support on pricing, project plans and structure of the proposal – all in close collaboration with our Project Management Team;
  • evaluate the proposal with the client as well as internally (post-pitch interview) and feed areas of improvement into the overall bids & tenders process;
  • all related administrative activities in order to monitor and report on progress & findings; and, creation / maintenance of template pitch materials.

Eisen

Ideally, we want our new colleague to:

  •  Be a team player
  • Be a strong communicator
  • Be aware of political sensitivities
  • Be flexible in your planning
  • Be well-versed in PowerPoint
  • Be creative (both in wording as well as visualization of ideas/processes)
  • Be precise
  • Be able to write and speak English flawlessly and fluently

…and always manage expectations.

Working environment

In return, we offer a dynamic, versatile job in a challenging working environment as part of an ambitious (but most of all humorous) team. You will have the opportunity to help shape policies, pitch new ideas and help us further optimize and improve processes and materials.
