Unilever R&D Vlaardingen is one of Unilever’s six global research sites. The R&D center creates and delivers unique solutions underpinning brand innovation programs, based on scientific and technological capabilities.
Laundry
The Laundry Deploy Centre in Vlaardingen is responsible for delivering novel and appealing Laundry Innovations into the market place. This position relates to a Process Design Manager's role within the European Regional Deploy Centre which is central to the product technology deploy activity.
This position is responsible for the leadership of people and programs in process development to deploy global and local projects into EU factories within the Laundry Category. The innovations span a wide range of formats. From powders, laundry liquids and fabric conditioners, to unit dose and novel formats as well as ancillaries. Responsibilities include the delivery of robust process specifications, direct implementation of projects into the local SC, trouble shooting and ensuring optimum manufacturability.
The candidate must have strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical teams, along with sound engineering proficiencies. The position requires strong leadership and team alignment qualities as well as a robust work ethic.
Oversee the execution of new processing routes and operating conditions for new formulations across a wide range of formats. Ensure process designs are implemented in full via close liaison with the relevant Global Deploy Centre, working across a range of projects.
Act as the principal processing point of technical contact for the EU Supply Chain and link into global Supply Chain where required.
Provide technical leadership to the regional businesses for project risk assessments, evaluate proposed manufacturing sites, and conduct main plant trials.
Support preparation and execution of launch monitoring plans (LMP) and Failure mode and Effective analysis (FMEA) for perfect first production launches.
Lead main plant trials through cross-functional teams, analyze outcome and communicate results and impact to the business. Assess manufacturing capability and SHE impact for target sites and advice business teams.
As key interface between Supply Chain and other R&D functions, must have or quickly develop network of peers in categories and regions in order to leverage Unilever experience. Maintain awareness of category and regional differences and identify ways to harmonize.
First point of contact for third party manufacturers and ensure Unilever standard of manufacturing in third party.
Key role in regional R&D to support quality projects and product quality improvement programs, clearance programs for alternative raw materials on validating of handling, use of new raw material and process adaptation.
Strong experience in R&D or SC with proven experience in Process Development, Engineering or Manufacture. Ideally Chemical Engineering background.
Global or Regional development experience, cross-category processing or engineering experience are all preferred.
Experience of leading teams is also essential.
