Allow your talent to flourish and enjoy the best experience in our Risk traineeship.

Our Risk traineeship enables you to steer your career in a direction that suits your talent and passion. The 2 year programme allows you to discover yourself through a wide selection of (online) professional and personal skills trainings.

Make an impact as a trainee

Risk management is essential to safeguard ING’s future. The Risk traineeship at ING has a broad scope and covers the management of credit risk, market risk, operational risk, model risk and compliance risk.

The findings from the analysis you perform, mainly on behalf of Retail and Wholesale Banking, will influence our company results and the risks we are prepared to take. Therefore, you need to have a strong sense of self-belief and stand behind your decisions.

Your first year

Your HR trainee manager will assist you in choosing your first rotation based on your own interest and learning goals. This rotation lasts approximately six months.

For example, you can experiment with big data in a predictive risk model or help to set up internal processes so as to minimise the risk of fraud.

During your first rotation you also work together with fellow trainees from other tracks on a group assignment to tackle a challenge that is relevant to our business. This gives you the opportunity to expand your network within ING and practice your stakeholder management skills.

With these new experiences and contacts, you are in charge to arrange your second rotation. Now it comes down to addressing your network and taking the initiative.  We encourage it to gain international experience during this six-month period,( if possible with local Covid-19 restrictions) which is not only great fun but is also good for your personal and professional development.

Your second year

After two rotations, you now have a better understanding of which direction you would like to go and are ready to choose your third rotation. Are you broadening your knowledge within your track, or would you like to explore a business area within another track?

During your third rotation you’ll start networking for your fixed position. This permanent role lets you go deeper into the field of Risk right from the start. You expand your knowledge and hone your skills, while working on your further development as e.g. a Junior Market Risk Manager or a Quantitative Analyst.

Training and Coaching

As a trainee there will be many opportunities to  discover and develop yourself. Your HR trainee manager coaches you during your three rotations. For extra guidance you can reach out to your line manager or ask a senior manager to mentor you. During the second year of your traineeship you’ll also benefit from a few personal sessions with an external coach.

During your traineeship, you participate in two Global Trainee events focused on professional and personal skills together with all ING’s trainees – across all tracks – from around the world. On top of this, throughout the year various virtual trainee days are organized where you’ll learn about ING and work on your professional skills.

Your benefits

Besides many opportunities to grow personally and professionally there are more benefits to working at ING:

Model Validation work-along intern – Trading Risk models

Actuariaat / Risk, Banking / Finance

ING - Amsterdam

The Model Validation Trading Risk Chapter is an energetic, diverse and collaborative team currently consisting of about 15 highly qualified professionals of various quantitative backgrounds, located in Amsterdam.

Following ING’s Think Forward Strategy to become the next generation digital bank, data and models are considered key assets in our bank. As model validators we safeguard the quality of ING’s models, which are used for all kinds of decision making purposes. We also contribute to the Model Risk Management (r)evolution that is picking up worldwide, given that models are imperfect representations of reality and hence may lead to financial losses and/or reputational damage. To effectively tackle these challenges, our Model Validation teams have been substantially growing in size lately and will further grow, also internationally.

We are responsible for validating Market & Counterparty Credit Risk models used by ING in about 40 countries all over the globe. We cover an interesting, wide and evolving model scope aimed to measure the market & counterparty credit risks in trades with a counterparty.  These models tend to be technically advanced. Our core business consists of independently assessing whether a particular model is fit for the purpose that it was designed for, based on the business context, academic theories, empirical evidence, regulations, best practices & technological innovations. Effective challenge is key in our role. Herewith we contribute to sound business practices, supporting a healthy, sustainable ING and global financial stability.
