How you can make your mark
As an engine expert at Boskalis, you will provide expert‑level technical support, project management, and strategic advice for the maintenance, repair, and optimisation of our main propulsion engines — with a focus on Wärtsilä, Caterpillar, MAN, Cummins, and Bergen systems. Acting as the knowledge owner for our fleet’s engines, you will ensure reliability, cost efficiency, and compliance, while proactively seeking innovative, risk‑based solutions for complex repairs.
Responsibilities
Technical expertise
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex propulsion engine issues.
- Conduct pre‑inspections and condition assessments.
- Review and validate repair proposals and supplier quotations.
- Ensure compliance with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) specifications and safety standards.
Project & repair management
- Track service letters and follow up technical requests with makers.
- Organise and manage engine repair projects — including planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.
- Coordinate with internal teams and external suppliers for timely execution.
- Manage spare parts logistics, stock strategies, and returns.
Operational support
- Support fleet teams in technical and financial decision‑making.
- Analyse repair options and propose cost‑effective solutions.
- Assist or lead breakdown service and emergency repairs.
Supplier & stakeholder management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with engine manufacturers and service providers.
- Negotiate and evaluate supplier performance and pricing.
- Coordinate communication towards these stakeholders.
Continuous improvement
- Contribute to standardisation of repair processes and documentation.
- Provide input for training programmes to expand engine expertise within the teams.
Your qualities
- Marine engineering degree or equivalent technical qualification, former chief engineer or senior service engineer with hands‑on experience on multiple engine types.
- Proven track record in managing 4‑stroke marine engine and auxiliary systems overhauls and troubleshooting, preferably with OEM expertise in Wärtsilä, Caterpillar, MAN, Cummins, Bergen.
- Excellent project‑management, stakeholder‑management, communication and organisational skills.
- Entrepreneurial approach to cost control and risk mitigation.
- Good command of written and spoken English.

Part of the Docking Support team within Fleet Management; primary internal stakeholders are the Fleet Teams.
Where you will work
The role is office‑based in Papendrecht, with approximately one week of travel per month (or longer during engine repairs).
