Thesis Internship – Utilities Strategy & Consulting: Decentralized Congestion Management & Peer-to-Peer Energy Trading
The energy transition demands innovative solutions for grid congestion. Under the new energy law, explicit room is created to enable peer-to-peer (P2P) energy trading. This offers opportunities for decentralized congestion management and local energy trading.
As a thesis intern at Accenture, you will research how P2P energy trading can support decentralized congestion management. You will analyze this issue from the perspective of both grid operators and commercial energy suppliers. You will have the freedom and guidance to work on a current and relevant theme within the Dutch energy sector.
Your job
During your research, you will:
- Explore existing P2P platforms such as KenterGroendus, Powerpeers, Entrnce, Piclo, FlexiDAO, Powerledger and iCAROS;
- Analyze the role of and opportunities for grid operators and energy suppliers in local energy trading;
- Investigate commercial models and technological prerequisites;
- Prepare advice on the applicability of P2P trading in decentralized congestion management.
Research methods: Both qualitative and quantitative research methods are possible, depending on your preference and the chosen approach. Think of interviews, case studies, data analysis modeling and/or simulations.
Your team
You will collaborate within a passionate team of Accenture Strategy & Consulting Utilities Netherlands. You will benefit from substantive guidance, a strong network, and access to the knowledge and resources of a global organization. Together with colleagues who have experience with various clients, you will work on a current theme with high visibility within the sector.
Qualification
Your background
- You are a master's student, preferably with a specialization related to the energy sector;
- You have an affinity with strategy, technology, and innovation;
- You possess excellent analytical and communication skills;
- You are a team player, but can also work independently;
- You have a "can-do" mentality and enjoy thinking outside the box;
- You speak fluent Dutch.
